On May 16, 2012, Nick Narigon, a freelance journalist from Iowa, moved to Tokyo to begin his life as an adult. Lisa Ohkawa, Japanese native and Nick’s stable and supportive wife, allowed Nick to move with her, despite his complete lack of prospects. This blog is an attempt to chronicle the challenges and successes of being a young man in a new country. Not only is this a tale of 21st century America, but it is a story that crosses international borders, encounters amusing characters and relates to the struggles every family endures. Thank you and good luck.

I thought maybe you moved from Iowa because Terry Branstad was re- re-elected governor. I would.

  3. Hi Nick, I’ve really enjoyed reading your posts. My family is about to move to Tokyo for a 2 year assignment at the end of December, and I stumbled into your blog while looking for Disc Golf courses in Tokyo.

Got hooked on the golf post then moved on to several of the hiking entries… all pursuits I hope to be following once we get there.

Thanks for the humor and insight.
