In 2005 when I started my first full-time job as county editor at the Marengo Pioneer-Republican in my home state of Iowa my boss gave me my own weekly column, which he titled, “In the Nick of Time.”
Eventually I would replace my boss as editor-in-chief of NEWSpapers of Iowa County before leaving for Philadelphia, PA in 2010. It was then that I launched this blog to keep my readers in Iowa up-to-date with my comings and goings and total random thoughts.
Since then I lived Tokyo, Japan, for nearly a decade, where I was editor-in-chief of Tokyo Weekender magazine. I now reside in Singapore, where I am a stay-at-home dad with too much time to once again update this blog with mostly useless articles meant only to humor myself.

I thought maybe you moved from Iowa because Terry Branstad was re- re-elected governor. I would.

Hi Nick, I’ve really enjoyed reading your posts. My family is about to move to Tokyo for a 2 year assignment at the end of December, and I stumbled into your blog while looking for Disc Golf courses in Tokyo.
Got hooked on the golf post then moved on to several of the hiking entries… all pursuits I hope to be following once we get there.
Thanks for the humor and insight.
