While recovering from a hangover, I watched the X-Men trilogy on FX. This to me to thinking, among other things, about the different science lessons and other bits of information I have gleaned from reading comic books. Here is a list of just a few of those lessons. Things I learned from comic books

1) The difference between telekinesis and telepathy.

2) Rubies can harness laser beams.

3) In French, “Mon Cherie” means “my pretty” and “Mon Ami” means “my friend.”

4) Exposure to gamma rays causes cell mutation.

5) Asgard is the home of the Norse gods.

6) The cheetah is the fastest animal on the planet.

7) Extreme cold (such as an iceberg in the North Atlantic) can preserve your body in suspended animation.

8) Blind people’s other four senses are freakishly heightened.

9) The banshee is an Irish spirit whose mourning call is a forewarning of death.

10) A flechette is a pointed steel projectile, with a vaned tail for stable flight.

11) Osmium is a hard, brittle, blue-gray or blue-black transition metal in the platinum family, and is the densest natural element.

12) The omniverse is the collection of every single universe, multiverse, dimension (alternate or pocket) and realm.
